Rules of the web site and other stuff
Here is an outline of the rules by which it is intended to operate this site and what it is hoped it will provide. This is a policy under development. If you have any comments please use the contact form HERE.
First the aims and it is important to understand that the site is provided on an entirely voluntary basis at this stage. LyngonLine's purpose will be to provide a location for news about the village of Lyng and its environment and to be, hopefully, a useful source of contacts and information. It is also hoped that the many organisations, businesses and clubs and societies in and around Lyng may find it a good place to put their news, events and contact information. Further on will be an outline of how they may do this and how it may be possible to use the site to raise funds for projects. Additionally and increasingly perhaps as time goes on it is hoped that it will become a forum for the exchange of news, views, opinion. A few early pages have been prepared to provide some information about the village and it is hoped that visitors will add to this, using the contact form provided (HERE). The Rules of the House: The first is simple - nothing by word or image that is illegal, obscene or capable of causing offence will be allowed. Anyone who wants fuller details can assume the webmaster will abide by the recommendations of the Internet Watch Foundation HERE This will particularly apply to that most pernicious of current failings - foul language. Everyone may be prone to swearing in speech at times but there is no excuse for bringing it onto web sites. If you wouldn't say in front of your mother or your children, don't write it is a simple guide. The site will carry regular news items but there will be no repetition of any bad language even if it is in context (the excuse used by the media). Newspaper are bought and brought into the home voluntarily - anyone can bump into a web page any time with no warning. The webmaster retains the right here as in all things to use his (or her) judgement. You can object but if it breaches convention discussion and total deletion is the best you can hope for. Submitted material must provide hot links to sources if the material contains anything where alternative views may apply. However comment is free and within the context of the Forum pages, which will develop over time, there will be no censorship of views, only the manner of expression. On line harassment and bullying of any sort will not be tolerated and while it would be wrong to restrict the expression of controversial opinion, if that opinion is capable of causing offence such as racial hatred, misogyny and the like the material will NOT be published. Contributors of any material need to be aware of the right of privacy of individuals referred to. You will need their agreement to on line use of names, details and photographs. This last is a difficult area. When media photographers operate those pictured have little doubt what may happen to the results. At village events this may not be the case. If you are taking pictures for use on these pages you must tell those in the frame of your intentions. Failure to do so will be at your own risk. NOTE: This does not apply to what may be described as public events, although if someone objects after publication judgement will apply. Even more difficult can be pictures showing car registration numbers, which may only be incidental. If you cannot mask these your are required to warn the webmaster in advance so that he/she may take the necessary action. The method by which this site is delivered means the levels of expertise required is quite low and it is therefore the plan to allow authorised officers of clubs, societies and other organisations direct access to their own pages, so that they may update them in their own time. However, and it is a big one, new material MUST be flagged up to the webmaster at the time of publication. If he/she disapproves the material will be taken down immediately and the provider contacted for resolution of the issue. As the site develops it is hoped first to open the pages to commercial organisations to provide contact details. It may later become practical to offer advertising opportunities. Specific terms and conditions will apply in these cases and be published when the time comes. Some services, at the webmasters' discretion, will appear from time to time as news items. (Please advise of any errors or omissions and of anything you disagree with via the contact form. Thank you.) |
